Bringing Everything Together and Preparing for Hand In
This week has been about bringing the whole Final Major Project together and preparing it for submission on Friday at 4pm. It has been a strange feeling reaching this point because the project has been such a long process, moving from early ideas and research all the way through to writing the report and producing the studio work. This week has been less about creating new work and more about making sure that everything sits together properly as one complete piece.
I began the week by making sure that the different parts of the project felt connected. At this stage of the MA it is not enough for each section to be strong on its own. The report, the methodology, the studio practice and the workshop development all need to support each other. I spent time going back through my documents to check that the language I used was consistent and that the ideas I introduced in the report were clearly followed through in my design decisions.
A large part of the week was focused on refining the Studio Practice document. I improved the written sections so that they explained my thinking more clearly, especially how the research led directly into the methodology and how the methodology shaped the design outcomes. I rewrote captions so that they were more reflective and explained why certain choices had been made. I also checked the layout and spacing to make sure that the document felt professional and easy to follow.
Although the Critical Report was already complete, I revisited it to make sure it still aligned with the practical work. I was careful to check definitions, references and any parts of the writing that might have needed more clarity. This helped me feel more confident that both documents speak to each other and that the reader will understand how the whole project fits together.
The last major task this week was writing the final evaluation. This required me to think about the project as a whole and reflect honestly on the journey. I wrote about how the methodology developed, what I learned from the research, and how the design work changed over time. I also reflected on the more difficult moments, including where I had doubts and how I managed to move past them. Writing this evaluation helped me realise how much the project has shaped my practice, especially in how I now think about community, identity and the visual representation of language.
I was focused on checking details, adjusting a few final pages and making sure all files were ready for submission. Once everything was uploaded, it felt like a real moment of completion. This project has been challenging and at times overwhelming, but it has also been the most rewarding piece of work I have done so far. It has helped me understand the importance of dialect and culture in design and has pushed me to think more deeply about my own identity and voice within my practice.
Submitting the work on Friday at 4pm felt like closing a chapter that has been a huge part of my life over the last few months. I am proud of the project and the journey it has taken to get here.
