This week I have been considering the self-initiated project. I have absolutely no clue where to start this. I am now back at the point of balancing studying and teaching at the same time and I have to get into that mindset, which is going to take time.
This weeks notes:
‘We treat all our projects, whether it’s self-initiated or for a client, with the same value’ – Sam Bompas
This quote stood out to me from this weeks lecture as it is around the idea of making sure that you are spending the same amount of time, energy and resources on all projects that you work on as a designer. All projects have meaning and value and should be treated the same way.
Creating the perfect design brief : how to manage design for strategic advantage
Essential elements to a design brief include:
- Project overview and background
- Category review
- Target audience review
- Company portfolio
- Business objectives and design strategies
- Project scope, timeline and budget
- Research data
- Appendix
These are key sections that help to break down the barriers of the design brief and give more clarity to a more successful project outcome. The key point to this is that the more information that you can supply within a brief, the more information that you will have within the design stages of the project, which can then influence your ideas and allow for more effective decisions.
